The Prosecutor Vs Ko Wing Leung
The case : The murder of Yam Yuen Yuen, stepsister of Ko Wing Leung

Counsel for the state : The prosecutor, No Name aka Nameless
Defence : Law Ba (Lead counsel), Kris Wong

Nameless should have a name because tonight Nameless was awesome! Anyway there shall be an end to this case tonight.

But first, some essential I-am-a-lawyer-torn-between-duty-and-conscience scene.

Kris in Auntie King's shop, eating noodle but not really concentrating, thinking hard when her mother and siblings asked if she was ok and she asked them to sit and said "Mother, if a mother killed someone and hid the evidence and yet the son is charged, do you think it is ok to shift the blame to the mother to help save the son?" and her mom said "Yes of course" and Kris asked "What if... what if Yuen is in love with Tim.. no no listen first.. what if Yuen is in love with Tim but Tim did not reciprocate, Yuen went and dated someone bad and Tim became angry and accidentally killed her, you as mother hid the evidence, then do you think it is ok to shift the blame to you to save Tim?" and immediately Tim the brother said "Sis, Leung will never agree with your way" and Kris shocked said "You knew who I was talking about?" and Tim said "It is in the papers" and Kris looked at Auntie King who said "It can't be that way" and Kris said "But just now you said..." and Auntie King said "This situation is different. You know Mrs Yam is innocent, how can you blame an innocent person of a crime she never committed? It doesn't matter if in the end she is not charged, her life is tainted.
You're a lawyer, you're supposed to upright what is justice and it isn't justice to blame Mrs Yam just so to get off Leung" and Kris now had to ponder more.

Law Ba at a road side stall, drinking lots of alcohol and in his mind he saw that creepy dead brother said "The police was hounding me, my friends left me, the society shunned me..." and he felt deep remorse and drank some more.

Pause.

I was telling my family about my theory of a more serious crime to change a person's perspective 360 degrees and they agreed but also added "Well, a better actor would have made it more convincing" which you know, is true.

Continue.

I seriously could not remember what happened to Law Ba at the road side stall. I think Kris went to see him or something. The next I remember is Kris, Law Ba and assistants went to see Mrs Yam and looking for a shard of glass or anything that can remotely hit Yuen Yuen's neck at that distance. They searched and searched and searched until Mrs Leung refused to give up and finally they saw something shiny, reflecting light on a painting.

In court, Kris does the questioning. Why? Because Law Ba is the lead counsel and he will do the most important thing of all; summarising the evidence. Anyway Kris said "The prosecution says this is a case of a crime of passion; of an illicit incestuous affair between step siblings, when the victim refused to reciprocate the accused's love, he killed her, backed by the evidence of the CD. The CD proves a recording was made, the sticker only proves someone stuck the I Love You on it and nothing more. The truth is far simpler; the defence will offer evidence to show it was a sad case of an accident" and so she used the TV and well... showed where each party was standing in the house, etc and said "As you can see, directly behind the victim is the painting, and it is my submission that it was an accident because a piece of glass was embedded in the painting" and so she wanted to tender in the painting which of course Nameless immediately stood up and objected, strenuously. Painting was allowed, showed to the jury and Nameless rightfully objected again to the admissibility because let's face it, anyone could have inserted the glass he said. Kris angry said "Is the prosecution implying the defence fabricated evidence and therefore breached professional ethics? I demand the prosecution apologise!" which prosecution said "I apologise for the offence caused but my objection stands" and rightfully so and the judge concluded the evidence is circumstantial, not direct evidence which means the jury can accept or ignore, depends on how persuaded they are by that piece of evidence.

Pause here.

Shouldn't some experts do the explaining of that glass thing? If it can be calculated and proven, it is evidence but direct evidence is far fetch. Could have been any glass, could have been anywhere. And this scene, Myolie was awful. Why? She talked way too fast. In fact she was rushing her lines. Nameless was far far better. Nameless deserves a name.

Continue.

Law Ba was worried since it is back to square one. So he said to Mr Yam "Mr Yam, you have to testify" and Mr Yam seems reluctant as Kris asked "Don't you want to help Leung? All you need to be is a character witness for Leung, to testify what sort of a son he is" and Mr Yam couldn't bring himself to answer as he tearfully left the room and Mrs Yam ran after him. After all, his daughter died! In fact someone asked me why Law Ba so unemotional since a young girl did die tragically and I said well, she is not the accused. What is there to be emotional over an accidental death? In court, Mr Yam as witness. Kris asked "Mr Yam, what is your opinion of the accused?" and Mr Yam answered "Honestly, he is a good boy. He loves his mother very much and he has always shown respect to me. I married his mother and therefore treated him as my own son, he has never asked me for money, he has integrity and honour" and Kris asked "How would you describe his relationship with Yuen Yuen?" and Mr Yam said "He protected her, loved her as his own sister, they were close" and Kris asked "Do you think he killed Yuen Yuen?" which Law Ba looked at Mr Yam as Mr Yam struggled to answer "Believe me, when I first heard of what he is accused of, the moment I saw him in the lockup, I slapped him. But then I thought he couldn't have done it. Then I heard the revelation in court and I was very angry, but most of all I was very disappointed. I thought how can my son changed so much, he is not the boy I once knew. I refused to testify for him, thinking he was the murderer. But as I calmed down and thought it out, I thought he couldn't have done it. He was not that sort of a man. If you ask me, I'd rather believe it was all an accident, just my Yuen Yuen's bad luck to have died the way she did. I want my son back; I believe in my son; in my heart I knew he didn't kill Yuen Yuen, I believe in his innocence" and Mr Yam cried as he said these and Mrs Yam cried and Leung cried as he said "Father...". Even the jury cried. Even Mrs Leung cried. Even I cried. Well I didn't cry, my tears are dry after the whole BBJX non stop crying but I nearly cried.

Now what would Nameless say? Don't know because not shown! NOT FAIR!!! Come on, do also do 100%. I wanna know what Nameless will do!!!

Sigh...

Summation. Law Ba's turn.

"My Lord, members of the jury, this is a very sad case. It is a case of an accidental death, no more, no less. The accused Ko Wing Leung out of sheer anger when he found out his sister, the victim was still seeing a man who wasn't good to her threw a glass and a piece of glass accidentally flew to her neck and killed her. The prosecution says murder! We say accident. More so when the accused called the police himself! If he did killed her, why would he stay? Logic dictates he would have run, but he didn't. The CD proves nothing. I believe in the goodness in a person. Why is it that we can believe such an awful crime could be committed when we can't accept it could have been an accident? Everyday, people die of mundane reasons, people die of extraordinary circumstances. It happens; this is such a case. The accused as testified by the victim's father is a good boy; raised singlehandedly by his widowed mother, she at last found happiness when she married Mr Yam and the accused knew that. They were a happy family; do not destroy what is left of that. Believe in the goodness of my client; believe that it is an accident because to believe otherwise will not only destroy my
client, but destroy this happy family. Return him to his family; preserve what is good in this world and find my client not guilty of murder"

He sat down, Kris looked at him proudly and he looked back curiously.

Pause here.

What Law Ba is sorta saying is between murder and accident, believe it was an accident. He has no evidence to support this apart from character reference from Mr Yam the father of the victim and that painting with the glass. This is to say jury please just believe it is accident because otherwise will destroy the family. Sounds like a good summation? Actually it is just empty words. Because Mr Prosecutor would have countered that by saying we are talking evidence, not it is better to let him go than to detain him sort of argument. Even the judge will direct the jury to look at the evidence and not see within themselves to believe he is innocent rather than guilty. Frankly I didn't quite like the summation. It was begging on emotional level but at the end their defence is pretty weak. The father could have testified out of desperation, out of love for Mrs Yam and the idea of already 1 child dead, better not lose 2 children sort of thing. Which is why a small scene if an expert (guest starring Wayne Lai) would have been excellent and more persuasive. Just imagine Wayne and his ipad
connected to the big TV and doing the explanation. But since at that time Forensic Heroes III not yet broadcast, Bobby Au Yeung will do.

Continue.

Outside court, reporters rushed towards Yam family and yeah yeah yeah, Leung won.

"Mr Ko, how do you feel about the not guilty charge?"

and well what can he say except "I am very happy with the verdict. But I still feel responsible for my sister's death and I shall repay my debt by being filial to my mother and my father.." and reporter asks Mr Yam "How do you feel?" and yeah how ah since you know your daughter died and Mr Yam said "I am happy at the verdict. I am glad I have my son back. My daughter died an unfortunate death but I am happy my son is back on my side" and Mrs Yam how do you feel? "I don't know what to say except I like to say thank you, thank you very much to Barristers Law and Wong for saving my son!" and they rushed to Law Ba and Kris and this is the sort of moment Kris has been dreaming of her whole life and Law Ba stepped behind and let her take the limelight and she did as she was asked "Barrister Wong, other lawyers said there is no way to win this case and yet you and Barrister Law won it. What was the strategy?" and I was thinking haven't you all been following the damn trial?! And she smiled, stood straighter and said as Law Ba smiled "The only strategy there is; I believe in the goodness of people. This case is a case of an accident and no more. The only strategy is to tell this truth and win an acquittal for my client. However, it would not have been possible without the brilliant closing by Barrister Law, credit goes to him as well" and Law Ba smiled, surprised she is willing to share the limelight.

At the centre, celebration! And Teng and Jing arrived, Teng getting better after the acid attack. Kris thanked Mrs Leung for her dedication and Mrs Leung said her favourite quote which I don't want to repeat anymore. King Kong who is one of the social worker arrived and placed a cake on the table and said the SSP cake guy gave this to Law Ba to congratulate him and Kris now no longer the pariah was also thanked by other members of SSP. She smiled happily and Law Ba sensing the moment has come smeared her face with the cream from the cake. Everybody became silent as Kris gave her death stare at Law Ba as he smiled and said "Oh come on, it's a joke! Very funny! No? Come on, you're upset?!" and Kris walked to Law Ba who was becoming quite alarmed at the way she was staring at him and she suddenly grabbed his face with her palms, rubbed her face across his so that his becomes smeared with cream and hers lesser and she walked away jumping with joy at the prank played back at Law Ba as Law Ba was so shocked he could not say anything as Auntie King said "Aiyah daughter, you're always too playful!!" and Teng and George rushed to Law Ba and held him and asked "You ok?" and Law Ba looked back at Kris and Kris gave him a smile and a wink sort of and he faintly said "I am going to faint"which he did, pretending to faint.

Pause here.

Woahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! Kris made the first move and a very serious one! You have to see this scene to believe it. Law Ba was funny, the way he was too shocked for words. At first I thought how ungentlemanly he was but really funny scene. Kris has always admired him, although she couldn't understand why he became Law Ba instead of being Law Lik Ah but after his closing, she looked at him differently.

Continue!!

Law Ba and Kris in her car, saw Leung and Mrs and Mr Yam happily going for a drink. Kris said "You were right to dismiss my strategy. Look at them now, a family again" and Law Ba said "Repay me with dinner then!" and Kris said "Ok".

At home, George came back and shocked, he saw Law Ba ironing a white shirt and singing!! He was singing a Theresa Teng song if I remember correctly. Anyway George said "Cousin, are you ironing?!" and Law Ba said "I have dinner with Kris" and George said "A date?" and Law Ba denied it, it was just Kris buying Law Ba dinner for the case. Meanwhile George said "But aren't you going to Mrs Leung's home for the dinner? She did invite use!" but Law Ba said "No not going, you go.." and he suddenly rushed into his room, very messy, dig up a bottle of cognac filled with dust, dusted it off, gave to George and said "Give this to her. This was from your father".

Meanwhile at Kris' home, Silvia saw Kris rummaging through her wardrobe and Kris excitedly said "Do you think this one is ok? Or this?" and Silvia said "Isn't it just a dinner with Law Lik Ah? So now he is your idol again?" and Kris stopped dead on her tracks as Silvia said "Moreover are we talking of the same Law Lik Ah here? He probably will bring you to some roadside stall. Jeans and shirt will be more suitable, so that any man spitting next to you you can just jump up and run" and Kris thought about it.

George at Mrs Leung's place. Her MIL complaining as usual, and when George arrived bearing gifts, she looked at him disgusted, as usual. Left to play mahjong but said "I will be back very soon!" as if these two will jump into bed or something. Anyway they had a good time with the children, eating prawns, crab, etc.

Meanwhile, Law Ba led Kris into that club fancy restaurant and funnily, Law Ba was in his finest suit and white shirt looking rather sharp and handsome and Kris in JEANS AND SWEATER BLOUSE!!! She didn't look that bad but obviously underdressed as Kris said "Why didn't you tell me you're bringing me here? I am so underdressed!" as Law Ba said "You look fine! I just thought you are always those who like such restaurants so I brought you here. Look, never mind, you do look great!" and they sat down at a very long table (too long for my taste!) one at each end when they were interrupted by PK and his lover boy, Victor. I cannot understand why PK said what he said or the relevance of this waste of time scene but anyway he said they were sitting at their usual table but since they didn't book, never mind and to Kris he told the waiter to bring his personal wine for her to drink which pleased Kris immensely. Do remember, PK is still the guy Kris wanted to impress and he is like royalty. PK left and Victor don't know why he said what he said and I can't remember what he said but he said something like insulting to Law Ba who managed to deflect it and Victor looked red faced. He left and Kris was smiling very happily when she said "You know, PK's wine is very very high quality. Better order something as high quality to eat it with" and suddenly waiter arrived, gave Kris a menu and placed the main course on the table as Kris said "I haven't ordered yet" and waiter said Law Ba ordered already and Kris scanned the menu, I can only remember Tiramisu but apparently the rest as high class indicative of Law Ba having good taste. Kris was pleased as she said "Hmmm... very good choices" as Law Ba smiled and said "In the past I always had these although I never thought much about them but now even if I want to I rarely have them..." as Kris smiled since she doesn't mind, she is buying him dinner as I think she said "It does look as if this is like a date" as Law Ba said slowly "Luckily it is not because if it is I can't afford it! But... if this is a date, a man never lets a woman pay on a date..." as he drank his wine and looked at Kris who looked back and smiled and said "Well then, thank you for this dinner" and he smiled happily.

Meaning it is a date!

Teng came home and one side heard Law Ba in shower and singing DORAEMON SONG!!! That was funny. Then came George who was singing some opera song!!! Teng told George about Law Ba's weird behaviour, they sneaked into the bathroom and recorded Law Ba wiggling his butt to Doraemon song! Law Ba chased them to the living room wrapped in a tiny towel which Law Ba grabbed in one hand as the other tried to grab Teng and with his glistening wet body with that tiny towel covering his very private parts, Teng said "Wahhhhh friend, your little bird isn't so little!"

Pause here.

I apologise for the rather full recap of the small tiny towel wrapped around.. you know what, you know what I mean! But what Teng said was oooooh la la! And yes, Kevin seems to be at least half naked in every single role isn't it? Only this time I was thinking TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP

Continue.

Teng said "So you like Wong Si Fu eh?" and Law Ba loudly said "Yes, I like her, so what?!" and George said "So... she will hear this for herself!" and he produced a second recording and Law Ba was like WHAT?! and again chased after them whilst his glistening wet body is wrapped in a tiny towel. He could work out a bit more though but well, think of the mantra, TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP.

Again!

TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP TOWEL DROP

Ok, where was I? I can only remember the colourful patterns of the towel for now. Oh, on Teng.

Somewhere in the towel (DROP! DROP! DROP!) scene, his friends did say to Teng why he never asked Jing out when he was on MC, instead he was hugging his case files. So Teng thought why not? One time Jing came by and helped him to put cream on his burnt back when he suddenly asked "Why don't we go watch a movie?" and Jing never one to errr ermmmmm ehhhh ahhhh said "Ok". So they went, watched some craptastic looking French film, she loved it and when they were walking out she said "Why don't we watch another one?" and so they did. Basically had a great first date night. In the taxi Jing was asleep, her head on Teng's shoulder when they arrived at her place and the taxi fella looked at Teng and the sleeping beauty on his shoulder said "Why don't I drive a few more rounds? Like those romantic movies always show?" and Teng smiled eagerly and agreed. So round and round they went on the deserted streets when Jing woke up but remained as she was, enjoying the comfort of Teng's shoulder when the taxi almost hit the van in front and she can't pretend to sleep anymore. They arrived at her place and she saw to her shock the taxi fare was over HKD200 and she exclaimed "Taxi sir, we came from Tsim Tsa Tsui and now to Shum Shui Po and the fare is over $200?!" and the driver explained "Of course, you were sleep, this man didn't want to wake up so we did a few rounds" and Jing looked slightly embarrassed as Teng shyly said "He is just earning a living, it's ok" and Jing looked at Teng in a new light.

Pause here.

TST to SSP isn't too far. I was told the last time I was in Tai Tsui Kok and went to SSP and the fare was about $20 plus.
TTK is nearby TST so the fare was around that. Meaning she must have slept for a very long time.

Continue.

NEXT EPISODE new case, new murder, George hiding something and a picture of.. LAU DAN?! Huh?

Story wise, no comment since I already stated all I did. However this episode is memorable for the face cream wiped face on face scene, that towel (DROP! DROP!) scene and Kevin Cheng shower singing. Yes it was very very funny. He's not a bad singer, since he released albums before but let's just say he should stick to acting which he isn't the best at but at least better at it. Kevin does take off his clothes at least once per series on average? Now this time it is more than just shirt. Pants also off and just with a towel (DROP! DROP!). And Sam's line was rather funny, the thing about his bird. And if you don't understand what is bird in chinese, well... I know you know what I know you know that I know you know what I am saying, correct? X rated! X rated!! No wonder the series got rated 18 by our censors even if the censors cut out the
majorly good scenes I suspect. But they probably didn't know what bird meant. I didn't notice the malay translation though. Next time I will. Oh worst scene? Closing argument and that finger pointing and all. I just don't like the finger pointing but seriously the delivery was ok. What is lacking though is the prosecutor's perspective. Nameless, thou shall not see the day!!

Ahhh Kevin, looking... is it dapper? Ok dapper in that suit.

Myolie, she's ok except for that court room scene. Why is she talking so fast? How fast? Normally,

"Mr Yam, what is your opinion of the accused?"

With Myolie,

"MrYam, whatisyouropinionoftheaccused?

And I was thinking, Myolie, what's the rush? Going somewhere? Slow down!!!!!!! Worst courtroom Q&A ever but did she point? Can't remember. Other than that, ok even if her stares at Kevin was OTT at best.

Mr Prosecutor aka Nameless aka the actor was rather good. Very convincing as the tough as nails prosecutor and he gives me an impression he is a senior prosecutor with the tough way he talks.

UPDATES - Thanks to Kidd for giving Nameless a name and a face. The actor is Yeung Shui Lun, and the picture is here although he is older in GJ.

Everyone else, NO COMMENT since nothing bad to say. But Eddie Kwan again missing.

Now.. Savio Tsang... his scene in the court room was almost perfect if not for god awful Myolie
"IAMINARUSHTOFINISHTHISLINESOICANJUSTSITDOWNANDJUSTACTISUPPOSE" Wu. It was heartfelt the way he said it; his tears, his anger, his disbelief; a great witness if there is one. Again one thing missing, prosecutor's perspective.

And so I conclude this recap with a few observations of things WE WILL NEVER EVER GET TO SEE;

1. TOWEL ACTUALLY DROPPING
2. Myolie Wu without 3 inches thick foundation/powder
3. Law Ba shaving
4. a name for the prosecutor
5. plea bargaining
6. prosecutor actually having more to do than just object etc although this series did well with the objections for this Ko
Wing Leung case
7. Law Ba walking into the prosecutor's office for discussion
8. Victor arguing in a case
9. Forensic experts
10. Experts of any kind.

That's about it.

SPOILERS ALERT!

Woahhhhhh!!!! An episode of revelation for Law Ba and yet felt like anti climax.

But first I forgot to mention some crucial points in this case in previous recaps. So I better add them in here, to avoid confusion.

The victim, died from a shard of glass stuck in her neck, step sister of the accused, Ko Wing Leung. Ko Wing Leung says he was arguing with her when out of anger he picked up I swear is a big glass vase (but this episode leans towards small water glass which is ridiculous since that piece of glass in her neck is HUGE), threw it to a faraway corner, smashed and he left. 10 minutes later he returned to see beautiful Yuen Yuen dead. He stepped on some water, slipped, knocked his head by the stairs and promptly fainted. Not long later he woke up, discovered blood all cleaned and he promptly called the police. And now the prosecution's case is he was in love with Yuen Yuen. They may not be related by blood but by relationship it is considered incestuous and in some countries, illegal. Because Yuen Yuen was dating a man named Chan (seriously can't remember his name but I think Howard was what he called himself so I shall stick with Howard) and ignored Ko, he was angry and killed her. It is a case of crime of passion so to speak. Defence says... ermmmm... well they can't decide between blaming it on some unknown 3rd party to create doubt (Kris) or say it is an accident (Law Ba).

And at a time like this don't you think there should be a cross over with Forensic Heroes? I mean imagine Maggie Cheung sweeps into the room and tell to Kris "You're wrong" and used all sort of equipments to calculate the trajectory of the glass being smashed and finally flew to Yuen Yuen's neck and whatever.

Anyway, recap continues.

Mrs Leung went with George to seek out that Howard. George asks Mrs Leung does she know how to question Howard and Mrs Leung said "Of course! Barrister Law taught me, briefly though.." and I can't remember what Law Ba taught her but it was briefly and anyway to cut the long story short George gave Mrs Leung a bluetooth hearing piece which she can hide under her hair and George can guide her through it. And I wonder what made them think if this Howard is a violent person will not strangle Mrs Leung for asking too many questions?

Inside, she found Howard, rushed into the k-room with him and honestly told him she is Mrs Leung, neighbour friend of Ko Wing Leung at SSP. Howard was annoyed but Mrs Leung saw right through him and used his pain of losing Yuen Yuen and said she too would have felt the way he did if she lost her daughter so she knew how he felt and in the end he did reveal several things; for one he genuinely believed Ko killed Yuen Yuen, that Yuen Yuen was in love with him and not Ko since she was always so tender with him and stuck by him and ended up arguing with Ko whom he felt was a weirdo sicko not so manifico sort of step brother and he really loved Yuen Yuen in his own way. But then he stopped and ran away when Mrs Leung by George's order accused him of lying of his alibi to the police, he ran to the male toilet, Mrs Leung followed him and barred him from taking a piss until he revealed why he lied about his alibi and all he said in the end was because he didn't want to get disturbed by the police. But he did say he went to see Yuen Yuen and saw at the relevant time Mrs Yam taking out huge garbage bags filled with stuff and then he went away to join his friends at karaoke.

Mrs Leung rushed to George and told him this piece of news as George admired her tenacity whilst I scold George for being so dumb as to put her in potential danger. What if Howard is a violent dude?

Law Ba, Kris went to see Mrs Yam and Kris went straight to point about what Mrs Leung discovered. Mrs Leung shaken (but not stirred) narrated her version of events;

may I say how come narration voice so emotional, continuation after flashback so calm? I mean at least be consistent.

"Yes I knew Yuen Yuen was in love with Leung. At first I thought they were just close as siblings and I was happy but then I realised she seemed especially tender towards him and as a woman I can recognise that sort of twinkle in the eye when you see the man you love. I was afraid, very afraid but Barrister Wong, I did not kill Yuen Yuen. I swore to myself when I married Ho Tin I will treat Yuen Yuen as my own" but Kris went on and on accusing her of lying, trying to protect her own happiness, sacrificing her son, etc as Mrs Leung tearfully said "When I came home, I saw Yuen Yuen on the floor, dead. And I saw Leung near her. I thought he killed her so.. so I cleaned up the place" and Kris questioned her motive for doing so as Mrs Leung said "I know what you are thinking Barrister Wong and I will say you are wrong. I did what I did because I didn't want my son to go to jail. I did not kill Yuen Yuen, I loved her as my own. But if you feel that by accusing me of being the murdered could save my son, please Barrister Wong, please do it. Save my son" and Law Ba and Kris looked at Mrs Leung unable to say anything else.

In prison Ko was told of this theory and immediately he became very emotional as he said to Kris and Law Ba "Don't you dare accuse my mother!! She didn't do it and I will not let you use her as my defence! NEVER! Leave! Leave now!!" and he went back into lockup.

Meanwhile story back to Teng and Jing. Jing was being escorted by Chik and they were chatting when finally we get to see Chik's very demanding girlfriend who did not believe him when he said Jing was under his protective custody and she warned him if he doesn't do something to please her, they're over and with Jing's permission, he went away to buy her some expensive stuff. Anyway Jing walking alone and indeed, that mad woman was following her. Meanwhile Teng called Chik and knew Chik left Jing alone and scolded Chik and Chik thought maybe Jing might be so unlucky to be in danger and so he rushed back. Jing knew she was followed and shouted "SHOW YOU FACE!!" and the woman did show her face and she said "WHO ARE YOU?! WHAT DO YOU WANT!" and the woman revealed her face and Jing went "You?!" and the woman kept saying "Return my husband to me! Return my husband to me!", clearly crazy and then she threw some liquid, clearly acid suddenly someone flew out and the liquid hit his back and that was Teng whilst Chik arrived and subdued that crazy woman. Teng was in massive pain and Jing quickly found a hose and sprayed water on Teng's back but the water pressure was too strong and Teng was in even more pain and then came to me the most romantic scene in this series thus far; slow mo, music, and Jing held the hose up high and let the water fall gently onto Teng's back who smiled at her appreciatively as she looked at him, worried.

Pause here.

Why romantic? Because it is! I mean sorta romantic, the idea of Teng's sacrifice and Jing's worries and the entire water hose and all...

At the hospital, Jing apologised to Teng but Teng said "No worries! It is just another scar, men with scar, more manly!" and Chik agreed and then Chik and Teng asked her what happened and Jing narrates, thank god without flashback since not everything has to have flashbacks...

"When I was working in office, I met a colleague, a decent guy and we fell in love. But his family found out my background and separated us and insisted he marries that woman. He was being indecisive; he couldn't marry her and yet couldn't leave me and so we ended up having a 3-party affair. But eventually the woman came to see me and... well... I left him (she didn't explain what the woman did but probably something hideous). He married her and I moved to SSP. I heard the marriage was not a happy one, and he divorced her and so she thought I was pestering her ex husband and came to seek revenge against me" and on everyone's mind, and I am sure your mind when I think Chik asked "But why did you move to SSP, of all places?" and she did not answer and Teng told him to stop asking.

Pause here.

YEAH Jing, WHY SSP?! God damnit! Tell me! TELL ME!!!!!

Continue.

Then we have the essential storyline that is a setup for some major father-son fight because Mr and Mrs Ting saw Jing on their way to the hospital and Mr Ting due to pride refused to see Teng but gave Jing a bottle of cream for him to use. Mrs Ting liked Jing very much as Jing told Teng what Mr Ting gave her to give to him and Teng wondered why his father never bothered to come up to see him and gave cream instead when he is having medical attention anyway as Jing explained "You and your father is exactly alike; no one will not believe you're both not related"

Pause here.

"no one will not believe you're both not related" I know is a weird statement. But do you understand what I am trying to say?

Continue.

"This cream represents your father's good intentions. Whether it works or not, it doesn't matter. It shows his concern for you" and Mrs Ting was very pleased to see Teng listening to Jing and also somewhere, Jing apologised and said it was her fault Teng got "acid" but Teng quickly explained it was the act of an unknown mad woman and Mrs Ting didn't ask much, in fact she asked if Jing could take care of Teng on his behalf and Jing said "Sure" although she felt Mrs Ting have mistaken Jing's affection for Teng as love. Well it will soon be. Imagine his father's reaction when he finds out Jing is a prostitute. At this point I wonder why Kris never offered a job to Jing to legitimise her again? Or that Jing wants to earn more money for her French restaurant dream?

At the centre Kris and Law Ba have differences in opinion and Kris insisted on using Mrs Yam as the defence's new strategy; to say she is the real killer, to create doubts. Did Kris believe Mrs Yam did it? I doubt it. She just wanted to win, to prove her worth. Suddenly the usually gentle happy go lucky Law Ba became very angry, raised his voice and said "Our client has already forbidden us from using this strategy. You will do well to heed our client's instruction!!" Kris was shocked at his outburst.

Law Ba and Kris turned Forensic Heroes as Law Ba practised throwing glass onto the wall, hoping to hit the Yuen Yuen "balloon" figure at the exact same distance as in the real crime scene, none of the glass hit the balloon figure and all the while Kris said "Didn't I said so? Come on, let's stop with this nonsense. Use Mrs Yam, she is our best bet in securing Leung's acquittal" but Law Ba was thinking on how the heck the glass hit Yuen Yuen.

My answer? Pure bad luck.

Kris and Law Ba were at the rooftop drinking and discussing strategy and Kris said "Please don't tell me you're insisting on using that accident strategy? Who will believe? Even I can't believe more so jury and judge. We are his lawyers, we are to secure his acquittal by any means and the argument of accident will not help Leung at all!" as Law Ba countered "We must not win by using such despicable strategy" as Kris said "Despicable? How can that be? Leung will understand once he is acquitted. The police will not have enough evidence against Mrs Yam at all so in the end she will be ok. Who benefits the most? Leung. No one will get hurt at all!" and Law Ba turned serious "You think no one gets hurt. But in the end someone will always get hurt. We will not use such a strategy!" but Kris angrily said "Of all the people who has a right to say that to me, you don't! Remember your own case of that incestuous brother? How you turned the tables on him and accused him and the accused got away? Remember? And you became a legend after that? That case 7 years ago? And now you question my strategy?!" and Law Ba became very serious as he said sadly "Remember in your mother's shop where I told you in my heart I knew the accused was the real murderer? I did not lie to you. I knew but I wanted to win the case and I did all I could and created the doubt..."

and in flashback we see Law Ba grilling the poor brother who may be a weirdo by taking pictures of his sister (and I think real sister not step sister) that he managed to make the young brother looked like some lusty incestous crazy brother who when he couldn't rape his sister, killed her. The brother broke down crying, admitting he loved her but "Please judge, please jury, believe me, believe me I didn't kill her" and Law Ba stood there with a self satisfied smile as he knew he created doubt.

Kris listened intently as Law Ba continued with flashback and dear lord, he looked like someone I could slap with his smirk!

"I became very famous after that. I soon forgot about that brother (can't remember his name...Chan I believe so I will just use Chan), Chan. I never thought I created any harm at all but the truth is people get hurt by what you choose to do. One year later..."

He received a call from Philippines police asking if he knew Chan and it took him some time to remember and the police said "We found your card on him as well as a tape" and Law Ba smirked and said "Well what does he want?" and the police said "He is dead" and Law Ba was shocked to his core at this revelation. He traveled to Philippines and saw the police who gave him a video tape which he watched. It was Chan, recording this for Law Ba to see. As we see Law Ba listened and next thing went to see the site where the body of Chan was found, we hear the man's narration;

"Barrister Law, I have wanted to kill myself for a very long time but I figured why should I just die without letting you hear the words I have always wanted to say to you? After the case, everyone saw me as some lusty crazy brother. I could no longer live in HK, I was hounded everywhere I go and I ran, I ran to Philippines for some peace of mind. But I was never peaceful. The reason I took the pictures was because I wanted to preserve what is beautiful of my sister. Yes, I was in love with her. I know that to many is sick but I never acted on my love for her. I never felt any urge physically; I just wanted to love her from a distance. But that monster you defended, he killed her when he couldn't rape her. He took her beautiful life away and you... you helped him to do that. If I knew the law would be twisted and the murderer gets to be free, I would have just killed him but I believed in justice, I placed my sister's life on justice and in the end, you... you twisted it all and my sister never saw justice. Her life taken away and her murderer get to go free whilst I... I was hounded... because I loved her. Barrister Law, I want you to see for yourself, I want you to see the consequences of your actions..." and he hanged himself before the camera.

Law Ba saw the broken rope at the building and he dropped to his knees and cried very very hard. Note the dead guy's clothes; he looked dirty, messy, torn clothes, he must have had a hell-ish time.

Law Ba continued ...

"When I came back to HK, I became different. I became very angry, at the law, at justice, at myself, I acted rudely to the judge, I made myself a pariah amongst my peers and in the end I couldn't stand it any longer, I left HK and I traveled for 7 years to find myself..." and Kris was listening very intently as he concluded "Yes you're right. I have no right to lecture you on the strategy, but whatever you're doing now was exactly what I was doing. I comforted myself by saying it was for my client's own good, it was a legal technicality, it was a legal strategy but who was I cheating? Myself. Because the truth is what I did hurt those who matters. I knew Chan was a model student, he was active in charity, he was a good man who had a great future but I took it all away from him with my accusations in court. We can't win this case on technicality. It will destroy Mrs Yam who has been an exemplary mother and wife. She did not wrong, so why must she suffer? It will also destroy Leung. No one will benefit and this will pervert justice. This isn't what we should strive for as lawyers. We are to uphold the law, we must win by legitimate means, by reasonable and sound legal arguments and not some dirty tactics. If you and I can't agree on the strategy, then my advice is you should quit" and so then Law Ba left and Kris looked at him, unable to say anything to counter his argument.

Pause here.

Yes the brother was creepy, yes he was in love with his own sister, but he wasn't the killer. Maybe his love was pure, so what Law Ba did was to twist something pure and made it into something dirty, sinister. I felt the case to make Law Ba changed his perspective was a bit too... simple. Surely he would have encountered many such cases before, using various dirty tactics so I wasn't convinced why he would be so emotional when the brother killed himself, as if this was his very first case. I thought the case to change his perspective should be even more sinister; and the one victim that can change a person's perspective always involves a child. And no murder more sinister than that of an innocent child or that one which involves a serial killer. But TVB won't go that route; it would be too heavy, too sinister but for me the perfect reason to change Law Ba. This case of an incestuous brother (of the heart) is to me not enough and finds his guilt as he kneeled and cried at the site a bit contrived. Maybe it is because I never got to see the victim's face.

Continue.

Oh and that's it, the end for this episode. Next episode, don't know what Mr Yam said that made Law Ba looked surprised and Leung said tearfully "Father....". I think he must have spoken in his defence.

Very interesting episode, in the sense it reveals what was bothering Law Ba but I feel again the impact of a witness killing himself is not enough to change the perspective of a very self absorbed arrogant man such as Law Lik Ah. I mean the change was 360 degrees so it should have been more than just the suicide of a weirdo witness in love with his own sister. The story should have made it grittier; crueler to Law Ba's conscience so as to make him change a total and absolute change and have his regret for the rest of his entire life.

But it is true; what sort of lawyer you choose to be defines your strategy and tactics you use. It is not a matter of delaying trials, etc but what Kris wanted to do was beyond that; it was shifting blame to another, a usual strategy but in Mrs Yam's case, it will destroy The Yam family and Leung himself. What would Mr Yam think? It would plant a seed of doubt. It would have been disastrous on so many levels, something Kris didn't see in her need to prove her worth. But how does one prove one's worth and what sort of worth is it? What Law Ba said to Kris in that final scene was to me rather well written. Once you betray that conscience of yours and shifting the blame on others, however you justify your actions, it is meaningless. That is if you have a conscience. I doubt PK would care. So it shows like Kris, Law Ba was someone who wanted so much to prove himself, that he sacrificed his ethics and conscience, thinking no big deal, people survive but in the end his actions not only did not give justice to the dead but it caused the death of one innocent party. Would that be worth the value of your conscience, your ethics? I personally feel no. Law Ba is right. You must win on merit. Whilst there is nothing illegal with what Kris wanted to do, but it is in the end immoral when in your heart you know Mrs Yam isn't the killer. Should an acquittal be gotten at all cost? If you're a lawyer, what sort of lawyer will you be? I know lawyers are often the most cursed at profession, money grabbing, sharks, immoral, unethical but what breeds these "values"? The system itself. In a criminal trial, like Kris believes, no acquittal can be gotten on pure blameless situation. The jury wants someone to blame so as to give that acquittal. But in Yuen Yuen's case, I do think it is an accident. It may not happen regularly but weirder things have happened. Of course where the hell is the forensics when you need them?

That is why I like the issues raised by Kris' action and Law Ba's past action even if I feel the impact is not enough.

As for performances, I maintain Kevin can't cry misery and miserably. It felt forced, not much tears. Just imagine him as 8th prince at the sight of his dead wife's body hanging off the floor and fire burning the building she is in, his anguish, his pain, his scream, his pitiful state, minus 50% of the angst and pain and that should have been a better representative of his pain in that abandoned shack scene. But he looks good smoking that cigar.

Myolie did well by not speaking and just let her eyes do the talking.

The rest no comment!

SPOILERS ALERT!

The Prosecutor Vs Ko Wing Leung
The case : The murder of Yam Yuen Yuen, stepsister of Ko Wing Leung

Counsel for the state : The prosecutor, name probably unknown
Defence : Law Ba (Lead counsel), Kris Wong

A pity this series never show the defence interacting or even bargaining with the prosecutors because I really like to know if they ever have a name. This case's prosecutor deserves a name because at long last, something resembling a good court fight.

Before I begin the recap for this exciting episode, I would like to comment about the sets. I never noticed, until this episode at how detailed Law Ba's office is. The files looking old and messy piling on top of another on an unstable pool table, the chairs looking worn out, law books on one side, more files on the other, the walls stained and the floor dirty, even the Legal Advice Centre looks authentic with messy tables and dirty walls. Usually TVB's version of offices is a bit sterile looking, and in many series we see they are too clean or... well... too... sterile is the only word I can think of. And too big. Like office space in HK is really cheap. Even the apartments for mere civil servants look like mansions inside apartments. But in here, the apartments are small, not TOO small but small enough to be convincing but the most impressive had to be Law Ba's office. I had to pause to look at the finer details and I appreciate the attention to details. Not just attention to details but the desire for it to be more.. authentic and they are. The courtroom is a bit too clean or rather too few files. A few files stacking next to one another will be nice and since both teams keep mentioning the juries, a sweeping camera over the juries would be nice also.

Anyway... recap shall we?

Frankly I just remembered I enjoyed this episode mostly because of Kevin but I can't remember much except Kevin eating that cake with a vengeance and Sam Lee's toothy grin, more so when in the first few episodes he never ever ever smiled at all. Now he can't stop smiling.

Everyone was confused about the complicated relationship of victim and the accused. George thought they were related by same father, different mother whilst Teng thought the other way around and finally Mrs Leung showed a hand drawn chart (Pretty cute!) with pictures pasted except for those she didn't know, when she explains "Yam Yuen Yuen's father, Yam Ho Tin was married to someone else and had Yam Yuen Yuen whilst Wong Mei Fun, Ko Wing Leung's mother married someone else and had Ko Wing Leung. Then Yam Ho Tin married Wong Mei Fun. That means they're step siblings, never blood related at all" and Law Ba said "See! That explains it!". Teng said "But why would Mr Yam hire a lawyer for him if he is not his son?" and Mrs Leung said "When I was in court I can see Mr Yam is genuinely concerned about Ko so I believe he really treats Ko as his son" and Teng asked "If Mr Yam treats him as a son, why is he working as a mechanic?" and Law Ba said "Because he has integrity. He wants to earn his own money and he did not use Mr Yam's money at all". And then Law Ba said "Mrs Leung you will continue to be my assistant. George is
busy with his own cases" and Mrs Leung now shocked couldn't say anything as George said "Mrs Leung I have faith in you!" and Mrs Leung said her favourite phrase "Ahhhh I am just a housewife what do I know?!" and Teng said "Mrs Leung, at least you could gather and present the notes better than our George here!" and George stared at Teng and then George said to Law Ba "Cousin, even before you entered the courtroom you
have already lost half the case. Look at the reports. The victim was young, apparently a bright student with a very bright future. That wouldn't sit well with the jury. Cousin... good luck" and Law Ba did looked a bit annoyed by what George said. Or was that worry?

But Mrs Leung is very worried she can't handle her new job; that is as Law Ba's legal executive.

Pause here.

I suppose in Chinese it is si yeh. In English, direct translation is Legal Assistant but that would be wrong terms since generally Legal Assistant, (not sure in HK) in Malaysia means a junior lawyer. Mrs Leung isn't a junior lawyer. She is a legal "assistant", here if with a few more years she will be termed legal executive or similar. But in HK since Solicitor means junior lawyer and barrister means senior lawyer (senior meaning passed the higher bar exam to appear before higher courts), then I think I will just use legal assistant when I refer to Mrs Leung but just take not she is not legally qualified at all. Which means she can't sit in front with Law Ba and not even at the back, she has to sit with the people at the gallery. I didn't pay attention where Mrs Leung was sitting though. And come to think of it, is Silvia same like Mrs Leung or is she is a junior lawyer? Maybe it is different in HK.

Continue.

Mrs Leung is very worried. But she wants to do her best and Law Ba found her ironing his robe and she said eagerly "I know how important first impression is and you must look your most impressive tomorrow in the court to win votes!" but Law Ba, whilst appreciating her effort, didn't seem to concerned about it, in fact he seemed rather.. doubtful not at the impression thing but on the fact of his robe. Not sure how to explain that
expression. Law Ba said "Mrs Leung you're hired to be my assistant, not some cleaning lady and in all these mess you can still find the iron?" and she smiled and said "I didn't. Auntie upstairs lent me! Moreover I am just a housewife, what do I know? By the way Barrister Law, have you figured out how to fight this case?" and Law Ba looked serious and said "No. I have been thinking, I have the strategy, possibilities, all in my head" and Mrs Leung said "No no! You must write them down!" and Law Ba said "You're right! Can you jot down my dictations?" and Mrs Leung said "Sure I can!" and she eagerly rushed to the table, sat down and started to write as Law Ba said more to himself "Whether to PG or to PNG? What about those P1 and P2? But then must see if there is caument..." and Mrs Leung was stumped. She was like "PG? Caument? What are
those" expressions but she wrote on, caument she wrote in chinese. Law Ba asked "You took down everything?" and Mrs Leung said "I did. Don't worry! By tomorrow before the court I will have them typed for you!"

Later that night George offered to drive her home. She wants to go to Mongkok to take the train but she actually stays in Tin Tsui Wai (should be the right spelling). Don't forget she is now at Shum Shui Po.

Pause.

If you're HK-er you would know the significance of Tin Shui Wai. If you don't, let me explain. When I was in HK, I stayed at Kowloon. One day decided to travel to Yuen Long for those potted dish they're famous for. I had to take the main train, changed to another train, take a smaller tram to reach my destination that is Yuen Long and was told the place I needed to go is one station before Yuen Long and that was Tin Shui Wai. I remember this because my sister reminded me where was Tin Shui Wai when we were watching this episode. I had great fun riding those trams; imagine stepping out of the station and you're right in the middle of a huge bustling city that is Yuen Long. It may be far, but it is crowded and I fell immediately for the charm of Yuen Long. Anyway Tin Shui Wai is much quieter; you can say it is village like but not like China Village or Malaysian kampungs but still small, with mosquitoes and very very very quiet. It is quite charming really, with those small old houses and the people are super friendly and the food is great. If you have a chance to visit HK, you must stop by Yuen Long. And drop by Tin Tsui Wai, a station before Yuen Long. I told myself if I ever live in HK, and if it is a good place, Yuen Long will be the place. Maybe it reminded me a bit of home or
maybe because of the bigger open space and the fact I could see the sky for once or maybe it is just the idea of a train station in open air above ground in the middle of a huge bustling place. My point is Tin Shui Wai is very very very very far from SSP. In fact when I was in Kowloon it was quite far from SSP. But Kowloon is near Mongkok, like next street. Actually in HK everywhere is quite near but somehow I find walking in HK
very hard because the roads are never even.

Anyway Tin Shui Wai is very very very far.

So George offered to drive her back to her home and she can't refuse though she didn't want to. As they drove, Mrs Leung chatted with George and said "I am very happy to be given an opportunity to train as a legal assistant for Barrister Law. With my qualification and that I am just a mere housewife, I would never have had such a great opportunity so I am very grateful and will learn all that I can. But I am worried; I tried taking down Barrister Law's dictation but I can't understand most of the terms he used" and George offered to help and Mrs Leung took out her notes and asked "What is PG? PNG? P1 P2? Caument?" and George smiled and said "PG means (and she spoke English - decent English as per Kevin's as well, Kevin slightly better) Plead guilty, PNG means Plead not guilty, P1 and P2 means the prosecutor's adduced evidence, labeled as P1 P2, if it was defence, then D1, D2 and Caument means Cautioned Statement. All these are our profession's special terms, you won't find them in dictionaries anywhere" and Mrs Leung was very happy and said "I see! Sigh.... I have so much to learn" and George said "No worries Mrs Leung, you can handle it. You want me to help you to type them out?" and Mrs Leung said "Oh no no I can do it" and George kindly said "Next time if you don't understand, just ask me, I will be happy to help" and Mrs Leung thanked George gratefully.

At Mrs Leung's home, he took her up and mother in law (henceforth MIL) saw them, looked at George up and down and George introduced himself and revealed Mrs Leung working at the centre and immediately MIL said "Massage centre?!" and before George can explain, Mrs Leung steered MIL away and said she will do the explaining.

Pause here.

How awful that MIL is to think the worst of Mrs Leung. Said centre and the first thing she said was massage centre and in Asian countries, in HK, the implication is something illegal, sometimes prostitution is involved and decent people do not work in massage centres.

Continue.

In the house Mrs Leung explained where she is working now and MIL said with venom in her spit "No wonder you dress so prettily these days. Working in office?" and Mrs Leung said gently "Mother I had to dress nicer since it is a law firm and I never thought I was too prettily dressed anyway" and MIL spitted "That guy, a lawyer? Are you sure? Which part is he a lawyer?" and Mrs Leung said "Mother he is a lawyer and he is very kind to me" and MIL said "I don't understand why can't you work in Tin Shui Wai area? Why so far away to SSP?" and she mentioned something about her son and Mrs Leung said gently "Mother, have you ever thought maybe Fung is not coming back?" and MIL said "Of course he is. He is just doing business in China, when he earns some money, he will be back. Why you wish he won't be back? I see! I see! You want to abandon me isn't it? Cast me aside?" and poor Mrs Leung had to deny and said "I will never cast you aside. Fung hasn't been here for some years, have I cast you aside?" but MIL's mind was set against liking the only person who is willing to take care of her and all Mrs Leung could do is sigh.

Morning. Mrs Leung holding a bunch of files and dressed in black and white when Law Ba dragging the black bag (standard for all criminal and serious civil trial lawyers) rushed to her, shaven a little and tie not yet done (no tie at all but darn it! Kevin looks good!) as he said "Let's go! We are gonna be late!" and Mrs Leung said "Barrister Law, I saw those lawyers with assistants dragging the bags for them. Let me do it for you" and Law Ba smiled and said "I can do it myself, you look like you need help with the files yourself" and Mrs Leung said "Here take this one file" which he did and he opened it as she said it was his dictations and impressed he said :"Wow! You did very well! You even include the definitions" and Mrs Leung said modestly "Solicitor Mai (George) helped with the terms" but Law Ba smiled and said "But it was your effort. You did well. We better hurry, we are running late!" and they ran.

Pause here.

I really like Mrs Leung and Law Ba together. I like how encouraging and very modest Law Ba is and how eager Mrs Leung to do her job properly. The whole scene of her asking if she should take his bag and he offered to take her files would be my choice as my favourite scene in this episode. The simplicity of that scene shows many things about these 2 people; how one is helpful and the other modest, one determined and the
other laid back, one eager and the other patient. I really like this simple scene.

Continue.

They were late for the meeting with Mr Yam, Mrs Yam, Kris and Silvia and Kris looked annoyed when Law Ba said "Sorry I was late!! So Barrister Wong (he never called her Kris did he?), have you briefed them?" and she said "Indeed I have" and Law Ba said "Mr Yam, your testimony is very important to show your trust in your son" as Mr Yam said "I don't think he killed my daughter" and so everyone was ready. In the court, suddenly the prosecution wanted to introduce an evidence; a CD recording and of course our heroes immediately objected.

Pause here.

This is one quite realistic courtroom scene and frankly I like it.

Continue.

Mr Prosecutor Without A Name was insistent, argued his case eloquently so much so I wished he has a name. The objection was such a late introduction of an evidence and the rebuttal is "This tape was in the possession of the victim's boyfriend. He didn't realise he had it until he went through his items and found it and immediately forwarded it to me. At least my lord should listen and decide" and the judge agreed.

Pause here.

In criminal law, in HK I believe, doesn't matter how late the evidence is as long as it is relevant. Is this CD relevant?

Judge played it and it was a love song sung very badly in my opinion.

Prosecutor explained "The song is a love song; of a person pining for another he can't have. The singer was the accused. On the CD, it was written in his handwriting "To Yuen Yuen" and below it a sticker with the words "I Love You" and this CD shows a motive; the victim was dating *** (can't remember his name) and the accused fell for his own step sister and decided to pursue her with this love song sung by himself with the words I Love You on the CD. She rejected him as shall be testified by *** and in rage he killed her" and immediately Kris stood up and said "Objection! Pure speculation!! and Law Ba stood up and objected and Law Ba said "I object to this evidence as I have noted earlier. We have no way in ascertaining the authencity of it!" but the judge allowed that CD and so Kris asked for adjournment so that they can study this new evidence. All the while Mr Yam looked in pure rage and Mrs Yam looked guilty.

Outside, Mr Yam flew into a rage. "THAT UNGRATEFUL SON! I loved him as my own and he dared to try and seduce my daughter and then kill her?!" and Mrs Yam said "No no he wouldn't. He didn't. Please trust him" but Mr Yam said "Trust him?!?!?" as Mrs Yam said "You have to help him" as Mr Yam said he will no longer testify for him and he said angrily "Why should I help him? HE... IS... NOT...EVEN...MY..SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". That shut Mrs Yam up and she cried bitterly and Mr Yam knew he hurt her when I think Kris or Law Ba said "Mr Yam your testimony is very important" but Mr Yam said "I have done all I could by engaging lawyer for him. He is on his own from now on!" and so he left.

Kris, Mrs Leung... you know what, EVERYBODY except you know who else visited Ko and so Kris and Law Ba asked Ko; "The CD, how did that come about? Was it a declaration of love?" and Ko was reluctant when Mrs Leung said "I saw Mr Yam in court, he was very angry that you dared to fall for your sister..." and so Ko said "No, it isn't what you think it is....I was in a band and recorded the song" and Law Ba interrupted and said "Yes I was in a band too when I was a student. So much fun..." and Kris stared at him and said "When you have finished reminiscing of your past, maybe perhaps then he may continue with his story.." and so he did stop and Ko continued..

"It was just a song, without much meaning but Yuen Yuen liked it very much and asked me to give it to her and to write the message To Yuen Yuen which I did and one time I went to father's house...."

FLASHBACK!!!

Yuen Yuen pulled Ko to her room and showed her the CD and on it his written words and the I Love You sticker and she said "I use this sticker because I know you were trying to tell me this when you recorded this song... didn't you?" and Ko looked serious and said "Yuen Yuen, I only see you as my sister and nothing else. I think you have made a mistake on my intentions.." and so he left.

"I swear I didn't feel that way about her. I wouldn't have acted on it even if I did" and someone asked "Why not?" and Ko explained "My mother worked very hard and single handedly raised me (Mrs Leung looked at him very hard at this point). She had suffered so much for me, so when she met and married father, I was very happy for her to have found happiness at last. But when Yuen Yuen confessed her love for me, I didn't even think about it. I didn't love her and never dared to because I wouldn't want to screw up my mother's happiness. What would others think? That my family is so messy? What would my father think? He loves my mother but he is also someone who places a lot of importance on how others perceive him. I would never do anything to harm my mother, ever" and so they finally understood. Yuen Yuen loved him, he didn't love her, she chased after him, he avoided her and he said "So I see Yuen Yuen as my own sister and I vowed to treat her as such. She began to hurt me and herself by going out with that no good son of a bitch who knew only to use her money. It was her way of getting to me...". Law Ba believed him,Kris doubted his story.

At Mr Yam's house, Law Ba was busy munching on the piece of cake. Pause here.

Incredibly funny scene, the way Kris was so serious and Law Ba busy stuffing his mouth.

Law Ba with his mouthful asked "May we see your daughter's room?" and so they went up, Law Ba holding the cup of tea and said "Love songs, romantic novels... she was quite a romantic was she? Don't girls like her keep diaries?" and Kris said "If she did the police would have found it and taken it" but Law Ba looked in the drawers and said "Ah-ha!" and Kris thought he found the diary but it was the I Love You stickers and Law Ba declared "And so this proves Ko Wing Leung's story. Yam Yuen Yuen was in love with Ko Wing Leung but not the other way around!" and Kris said "By just looking at the sticker?!" but Mr Yam rushed in and angrily said "No no! My daughter would never ever fall for him! Never!" but Mrs Yam was quiet.

Pause here.

I am wondering why was Mr Yam so emotional about the idea that his daughter would be in love with Ko?

At the club, Law Ba didn't like the tea there and said so and Kris said "Why can't you for once just be chivalrous and humour a lady?" and Law Ba said "Why must it always be a man to tolerate a woman? And a man pursue a lady? Why can't it be the other way around? The woman chasing after the man?" and Kris asked "What do you mean? Like Ko and Yuen Yuen?" as she sipped her tea and Law Ba said "No I meant us!" and Kris nearly choked when Victor arrived and said "Barrister Law, I am very interested to see if you will win this case. After all the last case, with Mrs Ma, the tactic you used, pure luck when you won!" and Law Ba was furious at the insult and said loudly "So if I lose this case, then the Mrs Ma's case was pure luck? You can doubt my abilities but you have just insulted Barrister Wong! She is my partner in this case, even if I lose, she is still capable of winning! See! He is doubting you Barrister Wong!!!" and Victor stuttered "No that wasn't what I meant. Let me buy you dinner to apologise for my insensitive remark" but kris has has enough and so left with Law Ba and Victor left alone there looking like an idiot.

Outside Law Ba chased after Kris to apologise for "putting her on top of table" meaning using her to get to Victor because he was pissed by his arrogance. Kris said "I am not angry with you, I am angry with them. My peers. No matter what I do, whatever I achieve, in their eyes I am forever a pariah, can't even be compared to you. I tell you! I will win this case, using my own strategy!!" but Law Ba wasn't so sure her strategy will work.

Meanwhile a short recap on Jing and Teng. Jing encouraged Teng to reconcile with his father, which he went to see his father and offered to help with his father's 60th birthday. Father relented. He left and his mom saw Teng with Jing, and told Teng's father that he has a girlfriend and both were pleased. Yeah and I am sure the old man will have a heart attack when he finds out Jing's profession, even if Jing is really a very nice girl if
not for her background. His mom called Teng and told him to take Jing home to meet them which Teng told Jing who laughed it off.

Jing reached home and saw her place sprayed with the words "Slut, return my husband to me" and suddenly a person with face covered threw some liquid to Jing's face, luckily it was chili oil. Jing in hospital with Teng and Chik and that police dude who asked her "Did you offend anyone who wants to harm you?" and Chik said "YOU!" and Jing immediately clarified "He and I are ok now. Moreover it was a woman" and so Teng
worried for Jing said "You two give her protection! Jing better rest for a few days!" but Jing insisted on working since she needs the money.

At the centre, Teng was on the phone with Jing and told her to be careful. Law Ba eating banana and George both teased him and said "He hasn't stop calling from the moment he woke up. Brushing teeth, he called her. Changing clothes he called her. On the way he called her. And now..." and Teng said "I was just being a concerned friend, she is in danger!" and to Law Ba "Maybe you can advise her to stop working for a few
days to be safe" and Law Ba said "Why me? Why not you? And what can I say to her? I can ask her to stop working for a few days but she will have to since she needs to eat. So if I say "Jing stop working" what more can I say after that if she asks if I lost my income what will I do? and will I say I will support you for the rest of your life? No? Then whatever I say after asking her to stop working is just pointless!" and Teng frowned.

Pause here.

When in chinese you say I will support you for the rest of the life, it actually means marry me or be my girlfriend, I will take care of you for life which surely Teng wants to but will Jing accept? Which is why Law Ba said such an advice, to stop working without such a promise after that sentence is a waste of breath to say.

George teased "And I agree with cousin!"

Kris arrives at the centre and Law Ba was so surprised to see her he exclaimed "What are you doing here?!" and Kris explained "I was here to visit Jing so I thought of dropping by here to discuss the case with you" and again Law Ba exclaimed "Here? You really mean here? Not at YOUR office?!" and Kris was rather annoyed with him. Law Ba casually asked Kris "So how's Jing?" and she said "She is ok" and Law Ba said "Did you ask her to stop for a few days?" and Kris said "I did but she insisted on working. She needs the income she says" and Law Ba winked to his friends and asked casually "What did you say after that?" and Kris said "What more can I say?" and Law Ba laughed and said more to Teng "Exactly my point!!" and I think he said in English and Kris looked at George who repeated the same thing and she looked at Mrs Leung who just
shook her head and said "Don't ask me. I don't even understand what is going on".

Pause here.

Exactly!! They do have a point.

In Law Ba's office where finally I noticed the excellent authentic interior as I mentioned in the first paragraph, Law Ba has his legs on the pool table filled with files piled on top of one another, Mrs Leung by the side taking dictation and poor Kris wedged inside surrounding by the files looking like they would fall on her anytime. He was still shaking and the pool table shaking and the files was almost toppling onto Kris as Kris gritted her teeth and said "Can.you.please.stop.shaking.your.legs?!" and Law Ba said "I have to shake, to think" and Mrs Leung said "Yeah he is like that. Don't worry! The files won't fall, never did before!" and Kris resumed her discussion and along the way she and Law Ba agrees on one thing; whilst Mr Yam was looking very angry at the suggestion that victim was in love with accused, Mrs Yam looked way too calm and Kris concluded "She knew! She knew Yam Yuen Yuen was in love with Ko Wing Leung!!" and Law Ba said "Of course she knew, I observed that way way way before" which annoyed Kris but I think it was Kris who asked "Did the boyfriend had something to do with her death?" and Law Ba said "I checked. He has alibis during that time, moreover there wasn't enough time" and Kris still wondered when Law Ba suddenly moved and the files looked like they would topple on her as she immediately grabbed the sides of the files left and right to her, panicking when Mrs Leung said "Why not tell the police and let them investigate?" and both shouted "NO!" as Law Ba explained "That will give that guy an unfair advantage that we are on to him. No we must keep secret, so we can use this as an arsenal in the court, our secret weapon" which Kris agreed and Mrs Leung said sadly "I still have so much to learn about court tactics" when I think Law Ba said "If only I can question him but I can't, that would be tampering with prosecution witnesses" when Mrs Leung said enthusiastically "Why don't I ask him? I mean I am not a lawyer. Moreover I am used to grilling the confession out of my two children. I will know when he is lying! Yeah let me do it!!" and both Kris and Law Ba looked at her, thinking if that would be a good idea.

It would be a terrible idea. I mean the boyfriend is some gangster! Anyway I love the scene where Kris wedged inside surrounding by files. Like "Sei min mai fook" or something like that; surrounded by danger in all 4 corners! It was very funny seeing how much danger she was in and for a moment I really wished the files did topple on her.

Next episode; Mrs Yam is the suspected killer and Ko refused to use his mother for his acquittal.

Love this episode. At least some real court room drama and the Mr Prosecutor Dude was rather convincing. If you're thinking why they're wearing wigs now didn't wear for Mrs Ma's case, I wonder too. I can't remember if in Mrs Ma's case there was wigs and robed worn. Yes yes there was wigs and robes. Robes definitely. This is because murder is in high court.

Good case and I think her death was an accident although I wondered why Mr Yam was so emotional in Yuen Yuen's room. As for Jing, I predict a tragic end to her love with Teng. It was never meant to be although she is a very very nice girl. Why can't Kris give her a job?

Performances wise, everybody was good. Special mention to Sharon Chan who was very earnest in her portrayal as the prostitute with a heart of gold although she is too loud in delivering her lines. Joyce Tang another special mention who played her role as the dedicated housewife cum legal assistant very well, her eyes very expressive although I wished she has a different line to deliver other than "I am just a housewife, what can I do?". Sam Lee is smiling, a lot. Eddie Kwan is underused, severely. I want to see more of Chik. Jazz Lam is against type but he is convincing as the polite well mannered George. Savio Tsang looks much older, bigger sized but well I always liked him anyway. Myolie Wu was bearable in here as long as she doesn't get too emotional and therefore overact. But I find her expressions of disgust against Kevin is a bit over the top. But I love her hair. Did I mention that before? I did?

Two extra special mentions.

Kevin Cheng looks very good in a suits and ties. And I find his portrayal as Law Ba getting more and more convincing as he got more and more into the role and more relaxed. Or maybe TVB brainwashed me. I love how he ate the cake. That scene was funny. And the whole banter with Sam Lee about Sharon was funny. Good writing over there.

Stephen Wong gained weight, and also gained a tan and he looks good. More mature, not like some little boy anymore and whilst understandable his acting must commensurate with his character’s misery aka looking miserable all the time, I still find his acting inadequate; just too darn suffering for my taste. Again appropriate but then he has always been rather good at being miserable.

And I just realised Katy Kung as Yuen Yuen is in Bottled Passion as the spoiled youngest brat of the villain's family. No comment on her acting although her face is young, fresh but weird

SPOILERS ALERT!

Two cases in this one episode, first The illegal frisk of Ho Lei Jing which will have a very amicable end today and some very startling discoveries about Ho Lei Jing and Law Ba themselves.

First, RECAP!

Jing pulled Law Ba into her apartment and as they chatted she massaged his back and Jing was surprised at the change of Law Ba in mere 7 years. "You're not who I remember back then" and Law Ba just smiled. Then Law Ba asked "Didn't you always said you wanted to open a French restaurant?" and Jing said "Yes I do... do you want to see something?" and Law Ba chuckled at the "something" since he might be thinking of something else as she pulled her to the back of the apartment, he opened a door and it was a room with a bed but she closed it and said "That's for business. I mean here..." and another door, another room and it was more personal, warmer with posters of anything French on the wall and he smiled at what he saw and they chatted and she said "I am still pursuing my dream, I am saving money now and learning French and how to cook French food" and Law Ba was happy for her. And then conversation turned serious as Law Ba asked "You sure you want to complain against that cop?" and Jing said "Yes I am sure but I don't have anyone willing to testify" and Law Ba said "There is one; Wong Si Fu" but Jing said "Look, she doesn't want to, she doesn't believe me so I rather not force her, no one will help me..." as Law Ba said "I will help you, remember what I promised? I will help you" as Jing smiled sadly "This was what Si Fu said in the past, that she will always help me but in the end..." but Law Ba assured her "I am on your side" and Jing looked at Law Ba appreciatively.

Law Ba at home, the 3 guys were very nice to him, giving him drinks, massaging him and such and they were curious; "So... how was the Sok Tui Tin Hao? As good as the rumours go?" as Law Ba laughed and said "How would I know? We just chatted" and the guys didn't believe Law Ba as he confirmed "True, nothing happened! I mean we lawyers have to sometimes entertain clients so I went to nightclubs and met her" and George said "Papa always looked down upon such practices. He always said two reasons why lawyers are often being held hostage; for money and for women", Chik said "You're sure? Oh come on, do tell!!" and Law Ba said "You have a girlfriend! Don't be such a lusty guy!" and Chik said "Well who says a guy with a girlfriend can't be curious. Moreover, you have been single for the part 7 years, surely you didn't pass up the opportunity?" and Law Ba said "I didn't do anything with her of that sort!" and suddenly they all moved away, switched off the TV (which was showing football game) and all. And Law Ba said to Chik "Anyway she will pursue her complaint against your partner" as Chik stood up and said "I believe my partner. He is a good cop, he wouldn't do such a thing, he said he only frisked her, he did not grope her!" as Law Ba countered, now standing up "He knew better not to frisk her. All he wanted to do was to humiliate her in public!" as Chik shouted "She's a prostitute! You trust a prostitute with an agenda and not a clean cop who did his job as he should?! He will lose his chance to a promotion because of this slander!" and now Law Ba was shouting back "No wonder Shum Shui Po has so many criminals! Even police isn't bothered to investigate and just jump to a verdict!!" and Chik shouted "Who said we didn't investigate?! My partner was telling the truth!! The prostitute is lying!!" as Law Ba shouted even louder (yes it became a shoutfest at the end) "I know Ho Lei Jing, I know her personality, I BELIEVE HER! You're a police! You're supposed to protect the weak, and here you're, calling her prostitute this and prostitute that, you're prejudiced against her! No wonder she has no chance at all! NONE!!" and they would have gone on further if Teng didn't hand Chik's handphone to Chik and said "I forgot! Your girlfriend just called, said you must call back!" and Chik being someone forever preoccupied with his girlfriend calmed down and quickly said "Really? Oh I must call her back! Phone!" and he immediately went to a corner and called his girlfriend whilst George grabbed Law Ba and switched on the TV and said "Cousin, look! The game..." and Law Ba's attention immediately shifted to the TV and became engrossed in the game.

Pause here.

Very funny scene as these 2 old friends' first rather friendly argument escalated to all out war of words. And how the other 2 diffused the situation. For once, Chik has more than 2 lines in a scene. Anyway, what is the nature of relationship between Jing and Law Ba? We shall know later.

Chik with that partner who groped Jing, didn't catch his name were walking and the guy was complaining about debts and all and Chik gave him some cash and advised him not to gamble so much when the guy grumbled "Maybe when I was frisking her I got stained by her period, and you know how gamblers see that as bad luck. Maybe that whore transferred that bad luck to me!!" and Chik suddenly stopped, faced his partner and angrily asked "I thought you said you just frisked her, you didn't grope her?" and he said "I didn't at first, but she was damn rude, so I thought I will teach her a lesson!' and Chik punched the guy and he was like "Why didya do that forrrrrr?" and Chik said "You bastard! I trusted you! You're a cop! You're supposed to set an example, not to treat others like that!" and he took back the money and angrily said "You are on your own from now on!!" and left.

Pause here.

Chik is also a good guy. He really believed his partner didn't grope Jing. And what he did next confirms Chik is also a fair dude.

Kris and her constant "lover", Silvia (yes she does look like NNadia Chan, including the crooked smile) in a car and Kris angrily said "She wanted me to be her witness! I was like.. what? I didn't see anything inappropriate! I swear I didn't, I just saw him frisking her, and he didn't grope her from what I saw!" and Silvia was very quiet as Kris asked "What? You don't believe me?" and Silvia said "If she was just another woman, you would have jumped to her defence. But because she is a prostitute..." and Kris countered "Which has nothing to do with what I am saying! I didn't see anything inappropriate!" as Silvia wisely said "Maybe it is not because you didn't see anything inappropriate but merely because you refused to acknowledge what you saw, you see her as a prostitute unworthy of your professional help, and so your inner senses blocked off what you actually saw and reinterpret it as something not serious. You're very prejudiced against her" and Kris was thinking of what Silvia said when she saw her sister against the wall, and her body being frisked by a guy. Immediately she rushed to her sister and scolded the guy "Who the hell you are to frisk my sister? What did she do?! Hands off!!!!" and it was Chik and Kris shocked said "Butt Sir?" and Chik said "I saw her taking some ecstasy pill and so I am searching her body for the pills" and Kris scolded "What? My sister, pills? Nonsense! And even if it was true, you should have followed procedure! Take her to the station and let a female officer search her body!!" and Law Ba's voice ran out "CORRECT!! ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!! Barrister Wong is absolutely correct!" and Kris looked at Law Ba, confused "What the hell are you doing here?" and she looked at her sister and then Chik who demonstrated how he frisked her without touching her body and Kris said to her sister "You conspire with them to lie to me?" and her sister said "I was walking by when Barrister Law asked me for my help so I did" and Silvia quickly said "Come come, we go and have a drink shall we?" and pulled the sister away as Chik said "Ok, my part is over! I am going back to the station!" and he left as Law Ba and Kris were left standing there and Law Ba said "Can we talk?" and scene shifted to Kris having tea at a roadside stall and Law Ba paying a mechanic for fixing his van at a very cheap price and then Kris ordered a cup of tea and she interrupted when Law Ba was about to order as she said "He won't be having any. He will be here for a short time only" much to Law Ba's chagrin. Anyway Law Ba said "You said what you said just now, and do you not admit you're prejudiced?" as Kris said "My sister is different. She is a decent girl" and Law Ba said "And Jing isn't, merely because of her profession? You're very very prejudiced against Jing. You saw the humiliation she endured and yet you denied that was what happened. You justified it all by saying she is a prostitute, therefore she is undeserving of our protection, our trust. She is still a person who deserves some respect whatever her profession may be. You're in a profession that should be helping her sort and not look down on her. Who are we to judge her choice at a career? I believe Jing, I know her well enough to know she will not lie about such things. The question now is what will you do about what you saw. Will you stand by her?" as Kris pondered and Law Ba took her cup of tea and drank it.

Kris drove to Jing's place, went up and heard some guys wanting to engage her services and she couldn't walk up and quickly ran back down when she bumped into Jing. Jing shocked said "Si Fu, are you looking for me?" and Kris said "Yes... can we go somewhere and talk?" and so they did, to some higher ground. Why is it everytime talk is at some deserted hillside area?

Kris looked at Jing and said "I would like to apologise for my treatment towards you. I shouldn't have judged you so harshly" and Jing smiled and said "Si Fu, it is ok. Even if you don't want to be my witness, I am fine with that. I won't force you to do something you don't want to do" and Kris looked guilty and said "I have promised to help you always and I failed at that" and again Jing refused to let Kris apologise for that when I think Kris asked "But why Jing? Why did you end up like this? I don't understand...I mean I always wanted to go overseas to study, but it was all talk only. My family never had the means to send me overseas so when I heard you have that chance, your family migrating overseas, I was truly very happy for you!" and Jing ...

Now here is the SHOCKING part.

Jing sadly said "Si Fu, I lied. I didn't migrate. My mother was not some rich businesswoman, she was a nightclub hostess (note : GRO) and she was addicted to drugs..."

And Kris, SHOCKED as we see flashback...

Her mom was addicted to drugs and owed a lot of money and one time the loan sharks came to find her mom and not only she didn't pay (and couldn't) she even asked for more drugs so they beat her up and Jing after school in school uniform ran to her mom and they saw how pretty she was and dragged Jing away and they threw her mom a pack of drugs and the mom was so drugged she ignored Jing's pleas and took the drugs and immediately well.. took the drugs. Jing held onto the door as long as she could, crying "Mother! Mother! Help me! Help me!!" but she was carried away and thrown into one of those club rooms and the leader grabbed her and tore her clothes. Later her mom woke up and saw her textbook and realised her daughter was here and she rushed into the room and saw Jing, clothes torn, crying after she was raped. Her mom cried and took a bottle, smashed it and wanted to kill herself but Jing stopped her.

"And from thereon, I gave up on myself. Not long later I joined the nightclub and later I became a prostitute. My mother died 2 years ago of complications to her health..." and Kris engrossed by her story said "I am so sorry for your loss... but at least it is a release for you. You don't need to be a prostitute anymore" as Jing said "What can I do? I mean I don't have the qualifications, who will hire me? I tried Si Fu, once I worked at a departmental store (I think...) and when my colleagues knew of my past when I came across my old clients, I was forced out. But I can't blame anyone for my choice; I chose to walk in this path so I shall bear the responsibility for who I became" and Kris said something I was thinking also "But still.. you didn't have to come to Shum Shui Po and become a prostitute there"

Meaning why SSP and become such a lowly prostitute? Something even Teng was wondering. No answer.

Jing said "You still can't accept my profession, I am ok with that. I still treat you as my best friend, no matter what" as she turned to leave when Kris stopped her and said "Jing, I am sorry. I shouldn't have said that. You're my best friend and no matter what, I shall honour my promise to you; no matter what I will always help you" and Jing smiled appreciatively as Kris.

At the station, Law Ba, George and that police dude guy and Law Ba said Jing only wants him to apologise which he refused saying why should he apologise to a whore and Law Ba said he has got a witness and he said no judge will believe other whores but Law Ba said the witness is a barrister and the dude said so what and he said he will ne-ver, e-ver apologise and he left.

Pause.

Why, is it... that barrister is like some auto immune/auto protect/auto super shield for everything? I mean like flashing your bar council member card and you're suddenly the best of the lot? This is the few reason why I could dislike this series. But maybe in HK a lawyer is much respected and well loved. Everywhere else from what I can see no one ever respect a lawyer, unless a criminal case lawyer and he wins a difficult case for an innocent accused.

Jing in super hot pants...

PAUSE!!

My god! Sharon Chan in a tiny super tight beige coloured HOT PANTS!!! She does have long legs. Very sexy.

and she met up with the Mainland China prostitute that she beaten up and scratched and gave her a huge tube of some cream and said "Nah! Here!Cream for that scratch on your face" and they didn't believe she would be so nice and all until she reminded them "Look, we have to protect one another and play nice, if not we will be bullied forever". Just then a thief ran by and the same police dude was chasing him and Jing immediately pushed a cart towards that thief, stopped him in his tracks whilst she herself fell down and hurt her back. Police dude caught the guy, prostitutes asked Jing why she helped the same dude who humiliated her and she said loudly "Yes he humiliated me but he is still a cop doing a dangerous job to protect the people. Of course I must help him, he is in a noble profession, no matter his ignorance towards my profession" and suddenly the police dude looked at her and said "Hey you!" and she looked at him and he said "I am sorry, for what I did" and he walked away. The others looked at Jing, shocked and said "Wow, a police apologising to a prostitute! Wow!" and from thereon Jing became like a folk hero amongst the prostitutes.

Which doesn't explain WHY is she a prostitute in SSP?

At night, Jing and Kris chit chatting after Jing cooked Kris a French meal and Jing was happy that the police apologised and she thanked Kris and then conversation turned to Jing and her ambition as Jing said "I will open that French restaurant. I feel I can achieve that. I mean life was hard on me but recently things seem to have changed. The police apologised, I met you again and then I saw Barrister Law again. I am very happy at the way things are going". Kris curious asked "Do you know LA well?" and Jing said "Very well, he was my constant customer when I was at the nightclub" and Kris said "Your... customer?" and Jing said "No no! Not that sort! He never once asked me out for dinner or anything. In fact he would come to entertain clients, always asked for me. He said he trusts me, and often people will try to find some things to hold him hostage to do some cases so he would always find me and use me as a shield. He was always a perfect gentleman. I just never thought he would become the Barrister Law that I know now, very different person" and Kris curiously asked "Did you know what happened to him?" and Jing said "All I know was 7 years ago he dropped by one night..."

and FLASHBACK!!!!

Law Ba, face shaven, looking mighty handsome in a nice vest/tie/suit in grey and drinking heavily as Jing narrated he rarely drink that much, he was always clear minded but that night he looked upset and Jing said "Barrister Law, what is it? What is bothering you? Tell me, maybe I can help..." and she said it with concern. I wonder was Law Ba ever in love with her she with him or just merely professional but on a very personal level? She seems to know his inner feelings, privy to his inner emotions. Anyway Law Ba cried very very hard and kept saying "I killed someone! I killed someone!" and Jing shocked as Law Ba rest his head on her lap and cried his heart out.

"Thereafter, I never saw him again, until recently in your mother's shop and he changed so much I was shocked".

Kris mumbled "He killed someone?" and Jing said "That was what he said but you know, I don't believe that at all. Barrister Law wouldn't have killed anyone. I don't believe that" and Kris asked "So... when you met with him again, did he explain what he did for these 7 years?" and Jing said "Why would I? I am just happy to see him again" and the conversation shifted to Jing's ambition but Kris was curious, very curious.

Anyway, NEW CASE!

The Prosecutor Vs Ko Wing Leung
The case : The murder of Yam Yuen Yuen, stepsister of Ko Wing Leung

Counsel for the state : The prosecutor, name probably unknown
Defence : Law Ba (Lead counsel), Kris Wong

I was right! 2 of them together on a case. Anyway, Ko Wing Leung is in deep deep trouble. He's the mechanic who charged Law Ba very cheaply for fixing his van.

Anyway, not there yet, first a short scene of Jing and Mrs Leung and Teng bonding at an old woman's place as they helped deliver items to the poor and Mrs Leung looked at Jing differently whilst Teng was beginning to fall for the kind hearted Jing.

Law Ba back at the centre and Teng asked where was Jing and Jing everyone said was doing business. Sigh... can't they hire her? Can't Kris hire her? Can't anyone hire her?

Anyway Teng received a call and asked for Law Ba and Law Ba received it and over the phone we hear a man panicking asking "Barrister Law you must help me! I only know you as a barrister! Help!" and we hear Law Ba reminding him not to say anything to the police until he is there and off Law Ba went but George said "I have a few matters to attend to..." and Law Ba asked Teng "Anyone I can borrow to assist me?" and Teng pointed to Mrs Leung and Mrs Leung shocked said "But I don't know what to do?!" and Law Ba dragged her with him.

Big mansion, rich dude, a mechanic??? Did I make a mistake on the mechanic?

Mrs Leung was scared to enter and see dead body but Law Ba warned her "I can't interview alone; I need a legal assistant or an assistant. You will do" but she refused and Law Ba warned "If you don't come in with me, you don't need to go back to the Centre!" and so she followed. After all Law Ba is paying her salary.

Anyway the accused, Ko Wing Leung at the table being interviewed and Law Ba arrived and the police was asking him what happened and Law Ba told Ko not to answer and asked to see Ko privately. All the while Mrs Leung was busy taking notes.

Back at the station, interview with Law Ba continues and Law Ba asked "Did you kill her?" and he said "NO I DIDN'T! I DIDN'T!!" and Ko Wing Leung narrates with flashback;

He is the stepbrother of the deceased, a young girl by the name of Yam Yuen Yuen (what a name!). She found Yam Yuen Yuen on the phone with her no good boyfriend who wanted only her money and he scolded her for wanting to see that guy and Yuen Yuen retorted "If you are so concerned, it means you love me! You love me don't you? Don't you?! Why won't you admit it?!" and Ko Wing Leung was frustrated and said "When my mother married your father, I already accepted and treat you as my sister and I will protect you no matter what!" and the girl cried "Like you said, you're just my stepbrother! You have no right to dictate who I meet and who I date if you're such a coward not to love me back!!" and Ko became so angry with the argument, took a vase and smashed it to the ground and left and walked for 10 minutes by the poolside, came back and saw Yuen Yuen on the floor, bleeding and dead with a huge piece of glass (from the vase) on her neck.

Law Ba asked "Could it be that no good boyfriend?" and Ko said "Couldn't be. I was just outside for 10 minutes, not enough time" and Law Ba asked "What do you think happened?" and Ko thought for a while and said "I know it sounds impossible... but I think it was an accident and this was what happened..."

and FLASHBACK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He threw the vase to the floor, rushed out and we see the girl in shock as she felt her neck and the piece of huge glass there. So what he meant is the piece of glass flew to her neck, accidentally.

Now even lottery can't be that accurate! So he did kill her, BUT accidentally.

Outside, Law Ba saw Kris and Mrs Leung rushed to Kris and said "Barrister Wong! What are you doing here?" and we saw Kris with another man, who introduced himself as the stepfather of the accused, name is Yam Ho Tin and believe me when I say Savio Tsang looks good for his age even if he was a bit bloated. Not sure of believable as the father of a university going daughter. Anyway Mr Yam said to Law Ba to wait a while and he walked into interview room with Kris and the moment he saw Ko, he slapped Ko very hard and Kris was shocked and tried to stop him and Ko was crying as Mr Yam said emotionally "You may not have killed her, but you were nonetheless the cause of her death!!!! "

Outside, Mr Yam wiped his tears and walked up to Law Ba and said "I believe my son is innocent. I have hired Barrister Wong and I know my son has hired you. I hope the both of you will do all you can to secure my son's acquittal" and he left.

Law Ba and Kris looked at one another, sat down to discuss the case and Law Ba said he believed Ko that it was purely an accident and Kris said "That sounds probably but yet impossible. For an acquittal, we will need to show a theory; put doubts into the prosecution's case" but Law Ba rightfully disagreed and said "Why don't we just clear his name? Instead of putting doubts, why not present his explanation which is a possibility? Clearing his name is better than dragging some unknown suspect into this case.." and none can agree and so Silvia said "Why don't we go back to office and discuss instead of here?" which is the lockup and both said "My office!" and then they started to argue about each other's offices and all Silvia said to Mrs Leung "Is this your first case?" and Mrs Leung smiled and said "Yes! Barrister Law said he will train me into an assistant" and Silvia looked at the 2 who were still arguing and she sighed "Well...I wish you luck..."

Next episode, prosecution will bring up incest! Murder! Jealous lover! Yeah!

Story, I have said what I wanna say. My favourite bit tonight is Jing's opinion on Law Ba and Law Ba's defence of Jing in front of Chik. Like they just understood one another. Am still annoyed with holier than thou Kris.

Performance wise, no comment except Sharon Chan did very well. I mean she can act, she is brave for dressing that way and I feel she give Jing a streak of independence and you look at Jing and you wonder maybe she may have been more successful than Kris if she had an opportunity. I feel her back story was very sad and shocking too. Never expected that her mother was a GRO. I thought maybe her mother became bankrupt, etc. A nice twist.

More on Eddie Kwan tonight and again I think I quite like the guys at the Legal Advise Centre. Chik is a nice guy, George is a gentleman, Teng is a decent fellow and Law Ba is Law Ba.

Kevin... simply very handsome in that flashback scene but dear dear, crying is errrrr... not good. Like I said anything serious, and I find him lacking. Of course in Bu Bu Jing Xin he cried A LOT but do remember, his voice was dubbed and the voice actor was a better actor in terms of voice acting than our dear Kevin. But damn it, he is handsome.

Everybody else, including Myolie, no comment. I mean ok some comment on Myolie. I find her strangely annoying eventhough she can act but somehow I feel her acting is rather... pretending acting rather than my heart is in it sort of acting. Anyway let me watch a few more episodes and let me gather my thoughts. Frankly when she was gone from a scene, I didn't miss her one bit.
